THE asking price for a controversial Somerset hotel complex with a 'colourful history' has been dropped - by £750,000.

Croydon Hall, on Exmoor, hit the regional and national press last year for hosting 'swingers' parties'.

Also last year, it was put up for sale, for £2 million.

But now, agents Carter Jonas have been instructed to market the estate at a guide price of £1,250,000, a drop of three quarters of a million pounds.

Details from Carter Jonas read: "The property has been in the local, regional and national press due to its colourful history running specialised functions for adult parties.

"The main hotel currently has 8 en-suite bedrooms as well as function rooms on ground and first floor.

"The first floor rooms could be converted back into additional bedrooms if required.

"In addition, there are further bedrooms in the Coach House as well as the gymnasium building with further accommodation."

Formal gardens and grounds at the Rodhuish property extend to 4.28 acres and include an outdoor heated swimming pool. Within the main hotel is a spa facility which includes a jacuzzi pool, steam room and sauna.

Stephen Richards, who heads up Carter Jonas Leisure, said: “The property was previously on the market at £2 million in 2019 and has been dramatically reduced to offers in excess of £1.25 million and we expect to receive strong interest for the property due to its achievable price and location in rural Exmoor.

"Previously the property has been used as a large holiday letting unit, a religious retreat and a school. We are interested to see what type of purchasers come forward and expect interest from corporate and owner occupiers looking to run a business from the site for tourism.

"Croydon Hall would make an ideal wedding venue due to its picturesque nature and the level of accommodation it can offer to guests."
