MEMBERS of Brean Golf Club have raised £10,000 for charity to help with skin cancer research.

More than 90 people gathered in the Kestrel Suite of Brean Country Club on Friday (February 21) to celebrate the success of Brean Golf Club members in 2019 and present a cheque to The British Skin Foundation.

Club captain Trevor Pitt met with Kelly Taylor from the British Skin Foundation to present the charity with a cheque for £10,101.77 which was raised through fundraising events at the club throughout the year,

A spokesperson for Brean Golf Club, said: “The charity was chosen as club members had unfortunately been diagnosed with skin cancer in recent times.

“Kelly Taylor urged all present to protect themselves against skin cancer when on the golf course and not to hesitate in taking a trip to the doctor should they need to get anything checked out.

“Taylor then thanked the membership of the golf club for their amazing effort and explained how this money would be put to great use.”

Nearly 100 awards were also presented to club members by Brean’s director of golf and PGA Professional Andrew March, club captain Trevor Pitt, lady captain Lyn Bird and Brean Country Club ambassador Peter Trego.

Barry Fellows was presented with the Golfer of the Year award by the club committee after entering the winners enclosure more than 10 times during the calendar year.

Trevor Pitt won the Clubperson of the Year cup in recognition of his fundraising efforts and for taking on the club chairman’s role mid season.

Three trophies were also presented to club champions of the three sections of the club.

Barry Fellows was crowned the seniors champion, Lyn Bird completed her hat trick of wins in the ladies event and Phil Hodgson received the Club Championship trophy for the first time and delivered an speech to close the award ceremony.
