BRIDGWATER’S James Smith has set his sights on raising hundreds of pounds for Brainwave by taking on a special challenge later this year.

In 2019, James successfully completed the Jurassic Coast Challenge, running three marathons in three days, and this year he will be taking on the Westcountry Ultra Flat 50 miler in May.

Running a picturesque route from Taunton to Minehead, the challenge will see James taking on 50 miles of Somerset’s finest landscape, all in the hope of raising vital funds for Brainwave.

Mr Smith said: “I’ve raised money before for some national charities however I never quite felt a strong connection to them.

“For my most recent challenges I was very keen to support a local charity as I wanted to make a positive impact on my local community.

“I am very fortunate to have two happy, healthy girls at home, however some of my friends are in a different position and have a variety of challenges, such as autism, affecting them in bringing up their own children.

“I’ve witnessed first-hand how much pain and stress this can cause the entire family, so I wanted to do my small bit in helping other local families affected get the support they desperately need.”
