A DOG grooming salon in Taunton is offering free sessions for puppies.

Boni & Guy, East Reach, posted on its Facebook page offering free sessions to puppies going to the groomers for the first time.

Owner of the business, Beccie Woods, hopes the offer will help to encourage better socialisation for the dogs, and help them with anxiety when going to the groomers.

She said: "I feel so passionate about this, so much so that there is no end date for this amazing offer.

"There are so many forums out there, when getting a puppy it can be incredibly confusing knowing what’s right and wrong.

"Lots of people suggest six months, twelve months and so on for a first groom. As qualified groomers we recommend as soon as the puppy inoculations are clear even is it’s just for a bath and to get them used to the noises and structure of having a groom.

"So very often we see older puppies, and even adults that are scared simply on the basis of the ‘fear of the unknown’.

"It is so important that grooming is an integral part of a puppy’s socialising and development."

Included in the free 'puppy pampers' is a bath, dry, face and foot trim, and of course, play time and rewards.

Ms Woods says the service will be free, with no obligations to rebook.

She added: "All dogs benefit from being groomed so it’s open to any breed and size, we really want their grooms to be a fun and positive experience so their will be lots of playing, praising and positive rewards."

The treatment is open to puppies as soon as they have been vaccinated, so the salon will need to see the relevant inoculation card.

Proof of age for the puppies will also need to be provided, and those wishing to take part will need to book in advance.
