THE CORONAVIRUS scare at a Taunton general practice surgery is presumed to be a false alarm after no new cases have been identified.

On Thursday, February 13, French Weir Health Centre closed for the morning while a deep-clean was carried out throughout the surgery.

Following advice from Public Health England, the surgery cancelled appointments after a possible case of the virus was identified.

The surgery was open again later that afternoon after it carried out the necessary actions.

While details of individual cases are not given out, Somerset Clinical Commissioning Group advised tests can take around 24 hours to return, and the Taunton case would be resolved by Monday, February 17 (today) at the latest.

At the latest update from the Department of Health and Social Care on February 17, 4,501 tests have been carried out, of which nine were positive.

The number of positive test results has not increased since Thursday, February 13, when it was revealed a ninth person had been infected by the 2pm update deadline.

The results from the Taunton case would not have been received by this time.
