UPS and Downs Southwest, a Down Syndrome support charity based in Westonzoyland, have made the shortlist in the 2020 Charity Film Awards.

The Charity Film Awards celebrates the effective use of video by the third sector to change mindsets, raise awareness for the charity or fundraise. More than 65,000 people took part in the public voting stage to determine the shortlist.

The Charity Film Awards panel of expert judges include high profile names from entertainment, business, politics and media, with the winners to be announced a gala ceremony in central London, in the spring.

Director of Ups and Downs said: "We are thrilled that our film has inspired people and thank everyone for taking the time to vote for us.

"'This is Me' is a defiant song of self-empowerment and sends out the very pertinent message that although I may be different, I still make a difference and a worthwhile contribution to society, we are delighted that the film has raised awareness and acceptance.

"The charity worked with Somerset Film of Bridgwater to produce the piece and with the filming company's expertise in working with people with disabilities, it was the perfect partnership."

Simon Burton, co-founder of the Charity Film Awards said: "In the digital age, charities’ use of video is fundamental to engage the hearts and minds of their communities. Ups and Downs Southwest's film is a great example of that in action.”
