A BUSY road near two Taunton supermarkets is set to be closed for five evenings from next week.

From Monday, January 20 Castle Street will be closed from 6.30pm until 11.30pm to allow resurfacing to take place.

An additional shift will take place on Sunday, January 26 after 4pm.

The road closure runs from the Wellington Road junction, to the Tangier carpark junction, with the entrance to Tesco included within the closed area.

Somerset County Council has confirmed it will be maintaining access to Tesco from Tangier, and the entrance to Lidl will not be affected.

Councillor John Woodman, SCC’s cabinet member for Highways, said: “Anyone who drives in this area will be familiar with the poor road condition here and this scheme is very welcome.

“It’s a tricky location to work on so I’m pleased we’ve been able to work with nearby stores to keep access routes open and minimise disruption as much as possible.”

For a final shift on Monday, January 27, there will be a one-way system in place on Wellington Road near the junction. During this time, traffic will be prevented from travelling into town along this road.
