A MAN was taken to hospital following a fire in Bridgwater this lunchtime (Thursday, December 19).
Firefighters were called out to reports of a fire on Bridgwater's West Quay at around midday.
The smoke and fire was coming from a flat above a business, and when firefighters confirmed there may be a person in the flat, backup crews were called from Taunton, Wellington and Street.
A spokesman for Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue said: "The fire was found to be on the ground floor and involved an incoming electric supply, and then spread to the first and second floors via internal voids.
"Ambulance were also in attendance and one male casualty was taken to hospital for precautionary checks due to smoke inhalation.
"The fire is believed to be accidental."
