ENJOY a Wassail ceremony at the Somerset Rural Life Museum in January.
Wassail is an ancient tradition observed on Old Twelfth Night. The event will take place in the museum’s 14th-century Abbey Barn and around the oldest apple tree in the orchard. The purpose is to promote a good apple crop for the following year.
Site Manager Sue Leask said: “We’re very much looking forward to wassailing this year. We will again be crowning our Wassail King or Queen, and we are delighted to welcome back local ceilidh band, Rapscallion, for merrymaking.”
The wassail ceremony will be at the Somerset Rural Life Museum on Saturday, January 18 at 6.45pm. The Wassail takes place between 7.30 pm and 10.00 pm.
Master of Ceremonies Les Davies MBE will run the event and Rapscallion will provide the musical entertainment. Hot refreshments are provided by The Grain Store Café and Hecks Farmhouse Cider, who have kindly sponsored the event.
Tickets are £12 for adults and £8 for children. To book visit SRLM.org.uk or on 01458 831197.
