A STORM is set to hit Somerset this evening as the Met Office issues a weather warning.

Gusts of 75 mph could be seen in coastal areas, with 60mph winds expected inland as Storm Atiyah hits the South West.

A spokesperson for the Met Office said: "Very strong westerly and then north-westerly winds are expected to affect parts of Wales, south-west and southern England during Sunday evening and again during the early hours of Monday, easing soon after dawn. Gusts of 50-60 mph are likely inland and 65-75 mph around some coasts.

"The very strong winds will be accompanied by heavy and often squally showers of rain and possibly hail. Large coastal waves are also expected."

The warning begins from 6pm this evening (Sunday) until 9am on Monday morning.

Across much of Somerset, rain is expected to start from around 3pm, until around 4am tomorrow. Strong winds are expected to continue throughout the morning.
