THE headteacher at Robert Blake Science College in Bridgwater has joined friends to take part in an epic swimming challenge for charity.

Over the course of two months, Deb Loveridge and three of her friends, Suze Daw, Alison Hindley and Claire Baumgardt, combined to swim a total of 68km for Alzheimer’s awareness by taking part in Swimming Down Dementia.

They have raised more than £1,000 for the charity through their efforts, swimming the length of the English Channel and back again between them.

Ms Loveridge said; “It was tough going in the last week.

“While we were determined to finish the swim successfully, thankfully in half term, I managed five swims rather than the usual two per week.

“I am delighted with our efforts.

“Getting fit while helping a good cause is the perfect combination.”
