BRIDGWATER'S Grand Firework Display has been cancelled due to bad weather conditions.

Organisers from Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival said they have been forced to cancel the event at St Matthew's Field at 7.30pm tonight (November 1) as 'inappropriate' weather conditions are forecast which would not allow the fireworks to be fired safely.

The news comes after The Met Office issued a yellow weather warning for rain which will be in place from 6am on until 11.59pm on Saturday (November 2).

They have also issued a yellow weather warning for wind which will be in place from 4am until 6pm on Saturday.

A spokesman for Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival, said: "We regret to inform you that tonight’s Grand Firework Display and Lantern Parade on St Matthews Field has been cancelled.

"This difficult decision has been taken on the advice of Skyburst (the firework company) due to inappropriate weather conditions forecast for firing safely this evening.

"Safety is our number one priority and so although we know many will be disappointed, it is for reasons beyond our control.

"The fair rides on St Matthews Field will be open tonight from 5pm to 9pm.

"As it stands all plans for Carnival Day tomorrow Saturday, November 2 remain in place.

"We regularly review the weather forecast as part of our Event Management Plan and are pleased to say that our carnival has not been cancelled due to the weather in living memory.

"Please keep checking our social media pages and website for the latest news."
