IT may now be the most famous festival in the world, but 50 years ago, it was simply Pop, Folk and Blues...

A small ad on page 8 of the Bridgwater Mercury on September 8, 1970, detailed the event.

"Sheltered fields for camping! All food at fair prices! Ox roast! All farms milk FREE," the ad said.

Little did anyone know at the time that the event would become the Glastonbury Festival.

Now, 50 years on, the Pop, Folk and Blues event is the most famous music festival in the world, held at Worthy Farm, Pilton - and still headed up by Michael Eavis.

The ad goes on: "Tickets £1 each by post from M Eavis Esq, Worthy Farm, Pilton, Shepton Mallet, Somerset."

Today (October 31), a new book has been released detailing the history of the event.

Look out for a review soon. In the meantime, have a look back at the 1970 ad and dream of how many people would love to simply be able to write to Mr Eavis now for a ticket...
