Earlier this year Mike Crocker became the new president of Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee.
Mike, 70, comes from a carnival-loving family and has plenty of carnival experience.
He first took part in Bridgwater Carnival in the early 1960s and after spending time in British Flag CC and Wilfs CC, Mike joined the carnival committee in 1980.
Here you can find out a bit more about the Bridgwater-born carnival president and his lifelong love of all things carnival.
Mike worked as a process engineer at BFF and retired in 2013, and says his first real memory of Bridgwater Carnival was being taken to the procession by his uncle in the 1950s.
He first took part in the carnival in 1961 and has been involved ever since.
“The best carnival cart I’ve been involved with over the years was British Flag CC’s 1973 entry Branch Line Special, while my all time favourite carnival cart was the Gremlins CC’s 1978 entry Galactic Guardians - it was a really innovative cart and it proved to be a turning point in the evolution of cart designs,” Mike says.
“The music they used was from Jeff Wayne’s War of the Worlds.
“It was just so appropriate for the cart and very atmospheric.
“My personal favourite Carnival Concerts stage performances I have seen would be the Redskins entry by Marketeers CC in 1987 and King Colobus by British Flag CC in 1972.”
