SOMERSET County Cricket Club has been given permission to use its floodlights during bad light in the daytime from next season.
The club was previously only allowed to switch the lights on at its Cooper Associates County Ground in Taunton during evening matches on up to 17 occasions from next season.
Using the lights during bad light would enable play to continue when it would otherwise have been stopped for safety reasons.
They have already been used for 20-over games in the evening.
Permission for daytime use has been granted by Somerset West and Taunton Council.
A report from the council says: "It is considered that the use of lights during cricket matches to enhance the daylight would be acceptable, subject to the lights being static (not flashing) and only used during the day when the light is considered to be bad light."
It adds: "The change to the condition would not result in significant impact on the environment or on the amenity of local residents."
