YES, they sold out. Very quickly.

And though it is heartbreaking not to get your hands on a ticket for Glastonbury, there ARE ways to still get there.

There are the resales, of course, which see those tickets left unpaid for by next April's deadline be released.

The resales take place in April 2020.

However, you can get to work securing your place at Worthy Farm earlier than that - by volunteering.

Lots of charities and organisations need help at the festival.

Five days is a long time, with lots of shifts to fill, so there are lots of roles up for grabs.

From WaterAid to Oxfam, recycling teams to bar staff, if you REALLY want to go, you can get there.

Most require volunteers to complete a certain number of shifts across the week, so while you may not get the slots you want, or miss some acts you really want to see, there's still a lot of time to fill having fun.

Here are just some of the options available...

WaterAid

WaterAid runs kiosks across the site, as well as numerous stands, stalls and information points.

At Glastonbury 2019, there were two teams: The Water Team and the Sanitation Team, with roles in kiosks, handing out water, refilling bottles, cleaning the loos, dealing with recycling or giving out details of the charity's work.

Applications for the 2020 festival open again in January, but you can get started now by filling out a volunteer application.

Visit www.wateraid.org/uk/get-involved/volunteering/festival-volunteering/volunteer-at-glastonbury for more details.

Oxfam

Oxfam has been working with Glastonbury for decades and is a huge presence on site.

This means they need a lot of people to help - more than 2,400 in 2019.

It has its own campsite (complete with showers!), its own field of entertainment and plays a huge part in making the festival work, providing stewards, shop volunteers and more.

You even get access to free tea and coffee and a meal token per shift.

However, in order to volunteer, you do need to pay a deposit (they don't want you signing up and then disappearing for the weekend!).

Oxfam runs shuttle buses from Bristol Temple Meads for volunteers, which costs £25 (both ways and is deducted from your deposit) to make it easy to get there.

Visit https://oxfamapps.org/festivals/festivals/glastonbury.php for details.

Festaff

All festivals need staff, otherwise they simply wouldn't happen.

And this is where Festaff comes in, providing volunteers to events across the UK - including Glastonbury.

Main roles available include stewarding, wristbanding, bar work, but can very widely, depdning on your skill set.

Information and an application form are available at www.festaff.co.uk, but specifics for Glastonbury 2020 are not yet available.

Shelter

In 2019, volunteers for housing charity Shelter raised more than £40,000 for the cause.

Shelter partners with Avalon Bars and Events, providing around 400 staff across the week.

There is a deposit of £300 to pay but again, do your hours and you'll get it back.

Visit https://england.shelter.org.uk/support_us/events/volunteer_at_glastonbury to register your interest in volunteering.

Recycling Team

The Glastonbury Festival Recycling Team are the true heroes of the event.

Each day, you'll see them, thousands of them (it seems!) working to pick up the bits and bobs people leave strewn about, making the site a great place to be.

Recruitment for the Recycling Team begins in January.

Check at www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk/information/jobs for more, or www.recyclingcrew.co.uk.

Competitions

And if you want a little extra bump to your chances, you can enter every competition under the sun for tickets!

The likes of Mallets cider, National Express and more usually run ticket competitions closer to the festival itself.

However, Waterstones is currently running a promotion ahead of the release of the new Glastonbury50 book on October 31.

You can find out more - and order your copy - at www.waterstones.com/win/glastonbury-50-prize-draw

In short, if you really want to go, there are ways to get there. And don't forget those resales...
