PLANS have been submitted to create a new building which can be used by the community near Huntworth.

S Notaro Ltd has put forward the proposals for a new one storey building which would be constructed on land within the Lakeside Holiday Cottages complex in Huntworth.

The new building would also become home to a nursery in North Petherton that has been struggling to find appropriate accommodation as it expands.

Lakeside Holiday Cottages comprises of 45 holiday cottages overlooking a private lake and 12 acres of countryside, and has been open since 2009.

The application seeks permission to build a single story building to provide additional tourist and guest facilities.

In the application, submitted by Greenslade Taylor Hunt on behalf of S Notaro Ltd, it states: "The primary role of the building will be as a meeting place for visitors to the existing holiday complex.

"The need for such a resource has been evidenced by the number of groups of visitors that stay at the same time and require a large room/building for meetings, lectures and exhibitions.

"In regard to the community use, the building is to be made available to local groups such as scouts, guides and an existing children’s nursery that has outgrown its existing building and is having trouble with its landlord.

"The provision of a sensory room within the building will be of significant benefit to children with additional needs within the community."

The children's nursery in question is Buttercups Nursery, which currently rents part of the building at North Petherton Football Club, in Parkersfield Road.

But the planning application says the building is no longer suitable.

"Unfortunately, both the design and overall management of the building does not work well and has led to a number of incidents that has led to the breakdown of relations between the children’s nursery and the landlord," it says.

"The nursery currently caters for 105 children of various ages and employs 16 members of staff.

"Unless an alternative building can be found relatively quickly this community facility together with 16 local jobs will be lost, as the proprietor is not willing to continue in their current premises.

"The nursery have looked extensively over the last two years for alternative premises and have not managed to find anything suitable from either a

financial viability or design point of view.

"Providing a flexible use for the building, to encompass guest facilities for conferences, meetings, seminars etc. as well as the ability for community groups and the nursery to operate from the site will provide a sustainable long-term use for the building that meets a number of local needs."
