THE 2019 Wedmore Real Ale Festival was one of the most successful yet, organiser have said.

Unlike previous festivals, this year’s festival was held in a field and thankfully the sun shone down as everyone enjoyed the bigger, more social, open space.

Visitors could choose from a whopping 72 different ales, 23 ciders and six craft ales, and over the course of the weekend a total of 5,000 pints were drunk, as well more than 200 bottles of wine and Prosecco being drunk.

A spokesman for the festival said: "There was a great music line-up again this year with the Straytones kicking us off on Friday night to a record-breaking crowd of festival goes.

"Saturday’s music started from lunchtime, with hours of live local music, followed by surf-rock band the Mantawrays and then this year’s headliners Zuma, who went down a storm.

"Saturday’s night fancy dress theme was the 80’s, so our resident DJ Enhance, filled his entire set with classic 80’s hits to ensure everyone got up to dance."

This year’s Sunday raffle made £1,712 with the top prize being a trolley of 100 bottles of beer donated by Cheddar Ales.

The auction alone made £3,669 which includes another record-breaking £1,640 raised for the festival’s finale, the ‘Beer Bucket Challenge’.

The festival spokesman added: "Many thanks to all of our brilliant sponsors, prize donators and volunteers for their continued support and for working hard to help us make the 2019 festival the best yet."

Next year's festival will be running from September 18 to 20, and you can keep up to date with developments via the Wedmore Real Ale Festival page.
