WHAT has happened to our democracy? 17.4 million people voted to leave the European Union. How can any parliamentary party so ignore this vote?

The article by Amy Cole (‘Protestors gather as debates continue’, County Gazette, September 5) tells us about the recent small demonstration against leaving which was in the heart of Taunton.

The Liberal non-democratic Party have now decided to campaign to revoke Article 50 to overturn the democratic vote of 2016 if elected.

At least the Liberal ‘Democrats’ have from the start been up front as to their opposition to the democratic vote unlike Labour which seems confused and the Conservatives where the majority of the Commons has done its best to thwart Brexit.

This, after standing on manifestos to honour the referendum result.

I have watched the appalling shenanigans of our present remain oriented politicians in their subtle and also blatant attempts to thwart Brexit.

It is good that after three years the present Government is at last taking preparations to leave seriously.

The decision was known three years ago, how come they and businesses are only now getting on with preparations?

In fact, many are indeed prepared, some surprising themselves even as they explore new markets and increased their profits as they were jolted from the status quo by the unexpected referendum result.

As I further watched what was going on in parliament and the total disregard of the 17.4 million who voted out, I realised that a real change is called for to ensure that we continue to be a country that upholds democracy.

In this context that means that the Government who told us they would accept our decision of the referendum, will so do.

Wanting to stand for democracy, I joined the Brexit Party and have now been selected as the Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for the Brexit Party for Taunton Deane.

So, when there is an election, if the Brexit Party fields candidates against all seats, I am your Brexit Party Prospective Parliamentary Candidate.
