A BAWRIP woman is at her wits’ end after another vehicle crashed into her house.

Maggie Butcher, 74, has lived in her home off the A39 for more than two decades.

But on three occasions over the last 22 years, a lorry has crashed into her house. A fourth incident has just occurred, but this time involving a car.

Each time it happens Miss Butcher says she pleads with local authorities for something to be done - but to no avail.

“I don’t know what to do,” she said.

“I let the dogs out and then they started going crazy.

“It’s a lovely home, I don’t want to leave, I’ve got lovely neighbours.

“I was told at one point there was going to be a bypass road, but that never happened.”

The latest incident happened at around 8pm on Monday evening (September 9), but she’s still dealing with the insurance claim from the crash before, which happened in March 2017.

The lorry destroyed Miss Butcher’s garage and front room, leaving the home structurally unsound.

Now, her fence and gate have been damaged again after the car flipped into her garden.

Police are investigating the incident.

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: “I can confirm that we are investigating an incident in which a car was involved in a collision in Bath Road, Bridgwater, at just after 8pm on Monday September 9.

“The car, a Ford Fusion, ended up in a garden. A man got out of the car and left the scene.

“Enquiries into this incident are ongoing.”

Miss Butcher would love nothing more than to be able to relax in her home, but her experiences have left her living on the edge.

“Nothing has been done,” she added.

“They don’t want to know. I’m 75 this year and I want to retire in peace.

“The traffic has got so much worse. Everytime I hear a bang I fear something has happened.”

Somerset County Council says some work has taken place on the road, but further reform needs to be police-led.

A spokesperson said: “We have carried out some patching, kerbing and footway surfacing works at this location since 2017 and continue to monitor the situation closely.

“Our resources are limited and we continue to work closely with police to identify and prioritise areas for improvement.”
