A TAUNTON man who had only recently been released from prison is likely to be sent straight back after committing two burglaries.

Anthony Paisley, 46, of Lyngford Place, appeared at Taunton Crown Court on Thursday, August 29 where he pleaded guilty to burgling a property in Mill Lane, Corfe and another Eastwick Road in Priorswood, Taunton, stealing £200 worth of jewellery.

Paisley is a prolific offender with 60 previous criminal convictions for theft and burglary.

Defending, Harry Ahuja said: "He had a long list of antecedent convictions and knows he is far too old to be doing things like this.

"This is effectively his sixth strike since the 'three strike rule' was introduced.

"He is not sophisticated enough to get away with it judging by the number of times he has been caught."

The case was adjourned until Friday, October 4 for the probation service to create a pre-sentence report on Paisley.

Judge David Ticehurst told Paisley: "If you get three years for three strikes, as this is your sixth strike it seems fair that you should get six years.

"You need to engage with the probation service and find a way to break this cycle of burglary."
