A WOMAN has been jailed for damaging a postbox celebrating the Cricket World Cup matches in Taunton this summer.

Jane Marie Butcher, 38, of Triscombe Road, Taunton, faces a lengthy prison stretch of 36 weeks after pleading guilty to a string of offences when she appeared at Taunton Magistrates' Courts.

Butcher targeted the postbox in North Street that Royal Mail had painted white to mark the three cricket games held in the town.

She admitted partially painting it grey on August 19 and was sent down for one week (concurrent to a number of other sentences.

Butcher also received six weeks (consecutive) for assaulting PC Lisa Rigby on the same day, and ten weeks (consecutive) for shouting and swearing in breach of a criminal behaviour order.

She was also given two weeks (concurrent) along with a £115 victim surcharge for using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour on January 31.

For throwing items around inside Sharp's bedroom shop, in North Street, she was committed to prison for 16 weeks (consecutive); she received a further 16 weeks (concurrent) for using foul language in Magdalene Lane, Taunton; she was given 16 weeks (concurrent) for being abusive to staff in Superdrug; and she was imprisoned for 16 weeks (concurrent) and given a restraining order for assault by beating a member of staff at Sharp's. She was found guilty at trial after denying all four offences.

Committing the offences put Butcher in breach of a suspended sentence for breaching a criminal behaviour order, for which she was jailed for four weeks.

And for breaching a conditional discharge imposed for harassment, Butcher was jailed for two weeks (concurrent).
