THE Hub Woolavington hosted its first ever community events on July 5 and 6 on Woolavington Sports Field and were delighted with the turnout.

There was a barn dance on Friday evening featuring the Bridgwater Folk Dance Band, while Saturday began with registration for the well attended Novelty Dog Show, followed by the official opening by Glastonbury Town Crier, David Greenway.

Attractions on the field included a climbing wall, bouncy castle, shooting gallery, skittles competition, face painting and more.

Highlight of the afternoon was the first public performance by Woolavington Youth Theatre singing songs from Scheherazade - a taster of their autumn show.

Saturday evening saw music by Ian Valentine and Two Tone from Bridgwater.

A spokesman for The Hub Woolavington: "Many thanks to Big Local Villages Together for their major financial sponsorship of the weekend and also to Woolavington Parish Council who made a contribution and gave permission for use of the Sports Field and Pavilion at nil cost.

"Black Rock Vets organised the entries for the Dog Show, judging the various classes and awarding rosettes to the lucky winners."
