BRIDGWATER'S The Duke is set to undergo a complete renovation before reopening later this year.

The music and sports pub based on Bridgwater High Street has been sold to national pub chain Amber Taverns, who own more than 140 sites across England and Wales.

This is the company's first venture into the Somerset market and the new owners say they have big plans for the site.

Sam Frankland, property director at Amber Taverns, said: “Amber Taverns is excited to have bought its first pub in Somerset. We intend to fully renovate the property to make it a favourite with the people of Bridgwater.

"We plan to reopen the venue in the autumn and look forward to becoming part of the community.”

Charlie Noad, who managed the sale for James A Baker, said: “The Duke is situated in a prime position fronting Bridgwater’s High Street and I believe the addition of an Amber Taverns’ site will only accelerate the growth of the local area benefitting the community.”

The Duke has a large ground floor covering 3,460 square feet, featuring a bar area, skittle alley, dedicated function room and four en-suite rooms on the first floor.

The venue also has a kitchen, laundry room and a beer cellar.
