A BRAND new gym facility has opened its doors to the public at West Somerset College Community Sports and Leisure Centre in Minehead.

Bridgwater & Taunton College Trust Leisure Ltd assumed control of the sports facilities at West Somerset College in April.

The brand new air conditioned room with new flooring features the latest fitness equipment including exercise bikes, rowing trainers and treadmills, resistance machines and a separate room for free weights.

This complements the existing indoor and outdoor facilities that will continue to be available for public hire at the Sports Centre – a 4-badminton-court sports hall, squash courts, dance studio, a floodlit full size astro turf pitch, Multi Use Games Areas, 4 tennis courts and a rugby and football pitch.

Peter Elliott, CEO for Bridgwater College Trust, said: “We are really excited about offering this new facility to the community of West Somerset. It represents a positive change in how community leisure is provided in the region.”

General manager, Clive Wilson, said: “The new gym facility and other sports amenities onsite are available for staff, students and the public to enjoy. “The feedback we’ve had from members and the community already in the short space of time we’ve been open has been extremely positive. We will also shortly be introducing a comprehensive exercise class timetable to increase our offering to the public.”
