STAFF from Bridgwater's new Premier Inn worked together with volunteers to give the Cemetery Chapel at Heathfield Cemetery a new lease of life.

North Petherton Town Council has been looking at ways to bring the Grade II listed back into use after 20 years along side Wallace & Stuart Funeral Directors.

Shelley Baker, the manager of the new Premier Inn at Bridgwater Gateway had kindly offered for her staff to assist with a community project as a team-building exercise.

North Petherton town councillor Bill Revans said: "The chapel is suitable for smaller funerals and as a place of reflection.

"We managed to brush down the internal walls, clean and polish all the furniture and clean out the chapel.

"We also tidied up the entrance area to the cemetery.

"The town council has now identified repair works that need to be done to the roof and the windows to make the building usable in the near future.

“We are hugely grateful to the staff of Premier Inn and Wallace & Stuart for helping with cleaning up our beautiful cemetery chapel.

"The Town Council Cemetery Committee will now be looking at ways to bring it back into use.”
