WEIRD, wonderful and wacky racers took part in a quirk event in Watchet.

The annual wheelbarrow race took place on Sunday, May 26, bringing dozens of people in fancy dress out in full force.

Lesley Abbot-Garner, one of the organisers, said: “The wheelbarrow race never fails to be a day of ‘wheelie’ great fun and hilarious race action for everyone.

“This year was no exception for bringing people together to witness this wacky fancy dress spectacle and the town was vibrant with spectators lining the route to watch and enjoy.

“The efforts and imagination of all the racers’ design and costumes was amazing.

“This year’s winner of the ‘best fancy dress’ prize can be proud in knowing that they were voted by each competing team as their favourite and race best. It was impressive.

“This year’s winning time was a splendid effort but did not smash the fastest race record -perhaps next year.”

The next event for the team is Watchet Carnival, which is set to take place on July 27-28.

Mrs Abbot-Garner added: “Watchet Live would like to thank everyone involved for their hard work, participation and support in making this a terrific and memorable afternoon.

“The next Watchet Carnival event will be the search to find this year’s Watchet Carnival Queen and royal attendants on Saturday, June 29 at Watchet Football Club.”
