A VILLAGE store and post office has been targeted in an early-morning raid.

Police were called to the Post Office at Trull Stores at around 1.30am on Sunday morning (May 19) to reports of a break in.

Money, cigarettes and tobacco were taken during the raid.

A spokesman said: "We were called to reports of an alarm at a post office in Honiton Road in Trull at about 1.30am on Sunday morning.

"The property was broken into and two people were reported to have left the building in the direction of Church Road.

"Cash, cigarettes and tobacco were taken. Police enquiries into the incident are continuing.

"Anyone with any information is asked to contact us, quoting reference 5219110112."

The Post Office has been temporarily closed following the incident. 

A Post Office spokesperson said: "Post Office can confirm there was a burglary at Trull Post Office and store in the early hours of Sunday 19 March.

"The people who run our Post Office branches provide important services to local communities. 

"This type of crime is very traumatic for the retailer and we will be supporting the Police in their efforts to apprehend those responsible.

"The branch is temporarily closed and alternative branches include Galmington, Taunton, Blagdon Hill, Bishop’s Hull and Station Road in Taunton.”
