EMERGENCY services were called to the River Parrett this morning to reports someone was in the water.

Burnham-on-Sea lifeboat volunteers were paged by Milford Haven Coastguard control at 09.27am this morning (Thursday, April 11), after a person was reported in the water near Combwich.

Burnham-on Sea RNLI Lifeboat Burnham Reach was launched with a crew of two and made its way up river towards the casualty.

As the volunteers arrived it became evident that the casualty had already been recovered from the water, coastguard control stood the lifeboat down, and the crew returned Burnham Reach to Burnham-on-Sea for recovery and wash-down by the shore crew volunteers

Also tasked to the incident were local charity BARB Search and Rescue, with their hovercraft.

Two of the shore crew were busy eating breakfast and working at computers, whilst helmsman Nick Edrich had just climbed a scaffold to carry out some roof work.

Mr Edrich said: "We reached the incident area within eight minutes of launching, but the casualty had already been rescued."
