PLANS for 130 homes on land off Taunton Road on the edge of North Petherton are due to be decided on next week.

Sedgemoor District Council's Development Committee is due to discuss the proposals at its meeting at The Princess Theatre in Burnham on Tuesday, April 16 at 9.30am.

Plans for 70 homes on an adjacent site have already been given the green light and Sedgemoor District Council's planning officers are recommending that, subject to a series of conditions, the application is approved too.

The report being put to committee members states that the application should be given the green light, subject to resolution of issues regarding the flood zone and approval from the Environment Agency.

The other conditions include the provision of a play area and that 30 per cent of the houses are affordable.

However North Petherton Town Council is objecting to the proposals, arguing that the proposed highway access is 'inadequate', the development would be 'isolated' from the rest of North Petherton, and that local infrastructure would not be able to cope with the additional demands arising from the development, particularly in terms of school places.
