THERE was a big turnout for a meeting about setting up a Men's Shed in Minehead.

More than 30 people attended a public meeting at St Michael the Archangel Church in Alcombe, and now the next step is finding a place to put it.

The meeting, hosted by local volunteering charity, Engage, showcased the variety of activities that could be available to both men and women through such a project, and those present had the chance to talk to representatives of the Somerset Levels and Moors shed, based in Bridgwater.

Katrina Midgley, Engage chief officer said: “It was great to see so many people interested in developing a Men’s Shed project, many of whom have offered support and expertise to get it off the ground.

“The first step will be to find suitable premises, and we are appealing to anyone, who might have a suitable space to get in touch.”

The UK Men’s Shed Association guidelines advise premises are accessible by public transport.

While a huge space is not essential, it should be large enough for several people to be able to work safely at any one time, as well as having room for a social area away from the tools.

Anyone able to offer premises can call Engage on 01643 707123 or email information@engagews.org.uk.
