ONE of Sedgemoor District Council's Lifeline officers has been praised for her quick thinking which helped save a woman's life.

Caroline was responding to an alert on a customer's Lifeline pendant who had fallen and was making her way to the property.

Her colleagues were reassuring the woman over the phone while Caroline travelled, and heard another alarm in the background which they believed to be a smoke detector.

They immediately dialled 999 as they were concerned for the lady's safety, and when Caroline arrived she discovered a kitchen fire.

She assessed the situation and acted quickly to smother the flames with a fire blanket just before the fire service arrived.

A spokesman for Sedgemoor District Council said: "The firefighters were very impressed with Caroline’s quick response, which ultimately saved the lady’s life.

"Had Caroline and her fellow Lifeline service operators not responded quickly to the falls alert, the fire could have spread quickly and the lady would not have been able to get herself to safety because of her fall."

Lifeline offers a service where users are given a special red pendant which they can press and receive a call from one of the operators to help with the situation.
