MAMA Stone’s music academy closed in 2009 after the Wellington venue failed to gain planning permission for a recording studio.
Co-owners Wendy, Joss Stone’s mum, (pictured) and Jonathan Joseph planned to relocate to the centre of Exeter.
The North Street venue featured live music at weekends, and an “artist development and production” business upstairs which produced most of the income.
The venue was in the national spotlight last month when Wendy Joseph’s daughter, the international singing star Joss Stone, performed a set in the Live Room, backed by her American band.
Permission to continue with the recording studio was turned down by Taunton Deane Council last year after objections from some neighbours concerned about noise.
Jonathan Joseph, a famous drummer, pledged to work to get the decision overturned, but the pair admitted defeat.
Signing off, Wendy said: “This year has been truly amazing and the support we’ve received from so many people has been overwhelming.”
