BRIDGWATER’S St Mary’s Church was magically transformed in the Great Hall at Hogwarts for the evening for a special Harry Potter supper.

The sold out event organised by Kate Gardiner and Purple Spoon events team saw more than 80 people head to the church to enjoy a specially themed meal.

Visitors were greeted by a lamp-laden Hagrid, while there were real owls brought by Secret World Wildlife Rescue.

There was a Harry Potter quiz to separate the Hermione Grainger’s from the Crabbe and Goyles.

A sorting hat was used to decide which house guests would sit in.

The church was illuminated to reflect the four house colours of Hogwarts, and guests were sat at four long tables in the style of the Great Hall envisioned by JK Rowling.

Guests enjoyed a variety of magical culinary concoctions including a shot of Polyjuice Potion, Leeky Cauldron Soup, followed by a roast beef dinner with all the trimmings and rounded off by Harry Potter’s favourite dessert - treacle tart with clotted cream.

There was also more wizardry with magician Gary Dadds leaving the new Hogwarts students dumbfounded with his card tricks and magic show.

One visitor described it as ‘a truly wonderful evening’.
