THE South are coming to Frome this March with a tour to celebrate their 10th anniversary.

The South are an impressive nine-piece band who feature former members of The Beautiful South, including singer Alison Wheeler and sax player, Gaz Birtles.

They are coming to Frome on March 21.

In 2007, The Beautiful South split, but some members of the band decided they didn’t want to give up their musical careers.

Two years later, singers Dave Hemingway and Alison Wheeler, alongside life-long members Damon Butcher (keys), Gaz Birtles (sax) and Tony Robinson (trumpet), came out of retirement and formed the nine piece band, The South.

The South work hard celebrating The Beautiful South legacy and the band continues performing the classic songs including: A Little Time, Perfect 10, Rotterdam, Old Red Eyes, Good as Gold and Don’t Marry Her.

All performed again live, these songs span an impressive 20 year career that started in 1989.

Since Dave Hemingway, the original singer, left the group at the end of 2016, Gaz has moved across to front the band with Alison and taken on vocal duties.

Somerset County Gazette:

Today The South consist of Singers Alison Wheeler and Gaz Birtles, Phil Barton on the guitar and Steve Nutter on bass. As well as Dave Anderson on drums, Karl Brown on percussion, Gareth John on the Trumpet, Su Robinson on the sax and Andy Price on the keys.

They play the songs made famous by The Beautiful South and bring back the full flavour and arrangements with this exciting live band.

After a successful year of touring the theatres and festivals of the UK up and down the country, The South are keeping alive all those timeless songs.

The South will be performing at The Cheese & Grain in Frome on March 21 at 7:30pm. For more information visit thesouth.co.uk or to book tickets visit cheeseandgrain.com/event/the-south or call 01373 455420.
