BRIDGWATER has enjoyed a welcome cutback this week as work started to bring the overgrown hedgerow alongside Morrisons under control.

Cllr Leigh Redman said Morrisons manager Paul O'Brien has been really helpful in getting the problem sorted since Cllr Redman issued an open letter on the matter published in the Bridgwater Mercury last month.

Cllr Redman has written a second letter to Morrisons, thanking Mr O'Brien for his swift action.

"I wrote to you earlier this month expressing concern about the overgrown lane bordering your store, the main growth coming from your planting," Cllr Redman writes.

"I think it is important to thank you for your swift and decisive intervention, following your response to my letter and subsequent conversations, you were true to your word, recognising the need for speed, you were able to put pressure on your head office to action the cutback.

"The area was very overgrown from your planting, the path was intimidating during the day and dangerous at night, with more than a third of the width lost in places, people were afraid to use the lane preferring to take the longer road route.

"But now you have cutback it has opened up the lane.

"I am so impressed with the action Morrisons have taken, the lane has been opened up making it so much safer for pedestrians and cyclists, the lighting is able to illuminate the area so much better now.

"I was quick to shout about the problem, I want to be just as quick and public with my thanks, the work you have completed and with such speed has made the area so much safer."
