THREE Bridgwater walkers are taking on the challenge of a lifetime trekking from Bridgwater to Buckingham Palace.

Agency nurse Jason Brooksbank will be joined by friend Cherie Winter and her son Mike, and supported by pal Matthew Lloyd for the epic journey in support of St Margaret's Hospice.

The team will be walking a total of 142 miles over the course of three to four days, planning to set off from The Cornhill on Monday, April 29.

The walk was the brainchild of Jason Brooksbank, who has carried out shifts for St Margaret's Hospice and was hugely impressed by their work.

"I have been impressed with how caring the St Margaret's Hospice staff are, they are willing to go above and beyond, and the service is funded almost entirely by donations," Mr Brooksbank said.

"I just felt inspired to try and do something to support them.

"None of us have done anything quite like this before, we are all friends who enjoy walking together but it is going to be a tough challenge."

The team have started training by regularly walking a 28 mile route along the Bridgwater and Taunton Canal.

"It is better as there is a group of us so we can egg each other on to keep going, plus we know it is for a good cause," Mr Brooksbank said.

"We also enjoy having a bit of music on in the background while we are walking, usually a bit of R&B or dance music - something with a good beat.

The group are hoping to raise £5,000 through their efforts and if you would like to donate, visit justgiving.com/fundraising/jason-brooksbank.

You can also pick up sponsorship forms from the Head To Head Salon in Kings Street, Bridgwater and the team will be running a raffle with vouchers on offer from Timeless Images, The Malt Shovel, The White Willow in North Petherton, Pyne's Butchers and Puriton Butchers, as well as the Charlton House Hotel and Spa.
