A TEAM of talented gymnasts came home with a haul of medals after taking part in a national competition.

Amateur gymnasts from Monarch's Gymnastics Club in Highbridge travelled to Glasgow to take part in the Scottish Open Championships

The competition was fierce but the club’s gymnasts put their best foot forward and won an impressive haul of medals.

The club's grade five men's team made up of Joe Reed, Toby Baker, Jack Warburton and Mason Wall came home with gold medals and Joe Blake and Kian Hawkes, the club's 13-19 junior men's pair also walked away with a gold medal.

These gymnasts are now in training to compete in Italy in July with with a women’s trio and a women’s pair.

Mandy Warburton from Monarch's Gymnastics Club, said: "We flew up from Bristol Airport, helped by a grant given by the Burnham and Highbridge Town Council.

"There were many teams from Scotland including the Scottish National Team as well as several London clubs taking part this year as well as gymnasts from South Tyneside with a very high standard of gymnastics over the weekend.

"The club has a very busy competition year ahead, with the regional prelims in March and we are hoping to take a large team to Mainz in Germany in October."
