SPAXTON residents are now enjoying their newly installed outdoor gym equipment.

The new facilities were only made possible thanks to Broomfield Parish Council donating its money from the Local Authority Playing Space Development Fund to the project.

Spaxton also received grants from Sedgemoor District Council and Hinkley C Community Fund to ensure their goal was achieved.

There is a new cross trainer, hand and seated bikes, a chest press and a seated rower.

Rowena Tomlinson, a spokesperson for the Spaxton Village Hall Committee, said: "Without their financial help we would not have been able to make this project happen; we really are very grateful for all their financial support.

"We have been working hard to improve our village play area over the last four years. Replacing old equipment and adding some new items so that it is appealing to all ages.

"We feel very proud that we have been able to provide an outdoor gym, something our community have wanted for some time and that our supplier will make a donation to the NHS Forest Trust who plant tress across the UK to enable more people to access green open spaces whilst in hospital.

"It has also been a team effort as a number of villagers gave up their time and donated use of their equipment to make sure our project was a success. We truly appreciate all this amazing support and community spirit."
