TAUNTON Town boss Rob Dray summed up the general feeling around the Viridor Stadium after the victory over Beaconsfield when he said: "A win's a win."

The Peacocks edged out their visitors 2-1 in a match which was far from pretty, with two Andrew Neal goals putting Taunton seven points clear at the top.

Dray said: “It was just about getting a win tonight.

"There are going to be a lot more games like this.

“We weren’t at our best at times but I think we were good value for it. A win’s a win.

“It wasn’t about the performance or anything else, it was about points on the board – especially with no game Saturday [the scheduled match at Salisbury has been postponed as the Whites are in FA Trophy action].

“There were a few tired boys out there carrying some knocks but we got the job done.

"We’ll train hard on Saturday but I think we do need the 10 days off. The boys need a break.

“We are talking to two [potential new signings] at the moment but it’s very early days.

“Defensively we were better tonight. Ryan Brett and Ben Adelsbury came back in and were superb but at times I still think we could have done better and made quicker decisions.

"We were architects of our own downfall at times tonight but we dug in and showed some minerals.

“Regardless of where teams are in this league, they all have some good technical players and I was impressed with Beaconsfield tonight.

“We made it hard for ourselves in certain areas but it was all about the result."

Neal's brace took him to 25 goals for the season in all competitions, leaving Dray delighted with the impact of Town's top scorer.

“Rocky has been phenomenal," he said.

"They say ‘always be lucky’ but he makes his own luck because he works so hard within the framework of what we ask him to do.

“He’s a natural finisher and has been superb."

Dray also provided an update on Shane White, who injured his cheekbone in the New Year's Day defeat at Merthyr Town.

“Shane has been back to the hospital and they have deferred the decision on surgery until next Monday," Dray said.

"They’ve told him it could be quite a long period of time but I know what Shane is like – he’s come up here to do the warm-up and he wants to keep his levels up.

“We’ll see what the doctors say and make a decision in the next couple of weeks."

Harry Gardner, meanwhile, is to stay in Spain until the end of the season after earning a deal with a club.
