THE sudden death of a man in Weston-super-Mare yesterday (Saturday) is no longer being treated by police as suspicious.

A spokesman said the 71-year-old died of natural causes and his next of kin has been informed.

THE sudden death of a man in a Somerset town is currently being treated as "suspicious" by police.

Initial investigations suggested the man had been shot in Weston-super-Mare, although officers now say this does not appear to be the case.

Detectives are carrying out inquiries in the area of Wadham Street, where the man's body was found at around 5.12pm yesterday (Sunday).

The man's identity has not been released and the cause of his death has not yet been established.

An Avon and Somerset Police spokesman said: "At 5.12pm we were called to Wadham Street, Weston-super-Mare, following the sudden death of a man.

"Armed officers were initially deployed to the scene after a report the man had sustained a gunshot wound although on arrival this does not appear to be the case.

"The man’s death is currently being treated as suspicious and a scene is in place to allow officers to carry out inquiries."
