Regional League 3 South
Galmington Hovelands 30, Bridgwater Jupiter 37

JUPITER travelled to meet local rivals Hovelands, with both teams looking for their first win of the season.

Jupiter started well, with smart passing from Amy Portlock (WA) feeding into the shooters and converted into goals.

With confident shooting from Sarah Edwards (GS) and timely interceptions from Eve Jenner (GK) and Emma Reynolds (WD), Jupiter finished the first quarter at 10-10.

Holly Filkins (C) fed well into Kia Jenner (GA), who took every opportunity to shoot, and with some great inceptions from player of the match Imma Matcham (GD) Jupiter started to pull ahead.

Hovelands had other ideas, though, and it was 17-17 at half-time.

Nonetheless, accurate shooting from Rebecca Hooper (GA) helped Jupiter pull away to secure their first win of the season.

Regional League 3 South
Sydenham Gems 36, Tor Knights 64

GEMS, as in every game, started strongly against local rivals Knights, taking an early lead and pushing to three goals up.

But during the first quarter Knights found their rhythm and linked well down the court to pop the ball into their accurate GS, who throughout the hour only missed a handful of shots.

Going into the second half Gems brought on fresh legs, with Carly Martin and Laura Coombes delaying the wings to break the flow of Knights’ play.

Overall Gems are slowly starting to link good play but just need to keep consistency.

Somerset Premier Division
Spears 48, Sydenham Rubies 23

RUBIES started off slowly against a side they know well and made some good passes down the court to shooters Laura Coombes and Shell Jenkins, but the first quarter ended in Spears’ favour.

The second quarter saw Rubies come out fighting, and they were able to hang on in the game, but still the advantage was with Spears.

In the second half Rubies started to put defensive pressure on Spears shooters with great interceptions and tips from Laura Coombes, and good defensive work from Katie Issitt enabled Rubies shooters Steph Gibson and Shell Jenkins to capitalise on the turnover balls, but Spears were pulling away.

With the rain lashing down, there were mistakes from both sides and it proved difficult for both shooting and defending; Rubies were unlucky not to get a point as the match ended 48-23 to Spears.

Somerset Division 2
Sydenham Emeralds 30, Taunton Priory 53

EMERALDS started the game off slowly against a strong Priory side and the first quarter ended 14-4 to the Taunton side.

However, Emeralds came out fighting in the second quarter and started to find their feet, with the quarter ending 29-13 to Priory.

In the second half Emeralds really put the pressure on with great defending from GK Jessie Venning and GD Angel Finka, along with some brilliant interceptions by WD Hollie Davis.

Some excellent attacking play by GA Tanisha Birch and GS Rhiannon Crabtree meant that Emeralds won the third quarter, pulling the score back to 37-24.

Despite their efforts, Emeralds were unable to catch up, and the final score was 53-30 to Priory.
