THE grounds of St Mary’s Church in North Petherton have been adorned with hundreds of knitted poppies to commemorate the centenary of the end of the First World War.
The poppies have been knitted by the ladies of the North Petherton Trefoils Guild, who have worked tirelessly over the past few months to knit around 800 poppies which are now on display around the grounds of the town’s biggest church.
Anita Tolley of the North Petherton Trefoils Guild said: “ The is the 75th anniversary of our organisation and we wanted to do something special.”
The poppies were knitted by just seven members of the Trefoil Guild who have been knitting away since July for this display.
“The poppies were put up on Monday last week and seem to have been very well received by the local community,” Mrs Tolley said.
