POLICE are investigating after a young girl was hit by a car at Bridgwater Carnival on Saturday night.

The Bridgwater Guy Fawkes Carnival Committee released an official statement today (Sunday, November 4) regarding the matter.

A spokesman for the Carnival Committee said: "We are aware of an incident at last night's carnival when a motorist in a car entered the procession route.

"We are working with the police to understand exactly what happened.

"The safety and welfare of our spectators and everybody involved in our carnival is our number one priority.

"We have spoken to Avon and Somerset Police and they have advised us that the driver concerned was arrested and that the young girl involved was checked at the scene but required no further medical attention."
