BRIDGWATER’S deputy mayor Cllr Tony Heywood joined children and staff at Eastover Community Primary School as their brand new totem pole was unveiled.
In July, during Arts Week, local artist Karen Hansen, who specialises in wooden designs and sculptures, visited Eastover Primary to work with the children on the totem pole project.
Every child in the school sketched a class animal, which were then used in workshops with Karen later in the week.
The workshops with Karen involved teaching children in Key Stage 2 carving and printing techniques.
Karen then used some of these animal prints created by the children and replicated the designs on the school’s new totem pole which is situated on the school field.
The project was made possible thanks to the support of Spaeda arts eduction, Somerset Art Works and InspireEd.
