THREE people have been taken to hospital after a serious crash in West Somerset. 

The two car crash near Wheddon Cross happened at around 4.05pm today (October 19). 

One person was taken by air ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital and two people were taken by land ambulance to Musgrove Park Hospital.

The crash  left the A396 near Acland Cross closed in both directions but it has since reopened.

A spokesman for the South West Ambulance said: "We were called at just after 4.05pm to attend a two-vehicle road traffic incident on the A396 near Acland Lane/Wheddon Cross, Minehead.

"We have sent the following resources to attend this incident: a doctor, an ambulance crew, and an operations officer. There are five reported casualties. They are currently being treated at the scene by our crews."

On Friday (October 19) Porlock Hill was left closed and two casualties treated by ambulance personnel after their motorhome crashed into a wall.

The pair had to be released by firefighters using hydraulic equipment.
