TAUNTON'S Vivary Park has been closed off following a reported serious assault.

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following the alleged attack, and police say there will be an 'increased police presence' while they investigate the area.

Police tape reading 'Crime scene: do not enter' has been placed across the gates to the park this evening (Thursday, October 18), and police have been seen searching the area with torches.

A spokesman for Avon and Somerset Police said: "We were called at about 6.40pm today to a report of a serious assault at an address in Mount Street, Taunton.

"One man has gone to hospital with serious injuries.

"There will be an increased police presence while we carry out our investigations and a scene guard is in place tonight.

"Anyone with information should call 101."
