ROBIN Windsor has, in his own words, been ‘wiggling his hops since he was three-years-old and is still wiggling them today’.

The former star of BBC television’s Strictly Come Dancing is embarking on his Farewell Tour and you are being advised here and now to get your tickets pronto for his appearance at the Brewhouse in Taunton as they are selling out fast.

This Farewell Tour is not a Farewell Tour which then turns into a come back tour. As Robin said, he is not Cher and this would not turn into a 100-date Farewell Tour which goes on and on.

This, the man said, was the final and only Farewell Tour - Farewell means goodbye, arrivederci and ta-ta.

Talking about how he got the bug to become a professional dance, Robin said: “When I was three-years-old back in my home town of Ipswich, my parents were dance teachers.

“And one day I was standing in front of the mirror and was wiggling my hips.

“I love dancing to music and have been wiggling my hips ever since.

“My parents said would I like to have lessons which I said yes and that was the start.

“I have always had natural rhythm and I have had it the whole of my life.

“If you do not have natural rhythm then you will have a tough time in trying to be a dancer.

“I have been very fortunate to have been able to travel the world doing what I love.

“I have appeared in Burn the Floor of Broadway and appearing in Strictly Come Dancing.

“Being on Broadway was the most intense thing I have ever done in my life.

“I had to appear in eight shows every week and each one had to be slick and perfect.

“The amount of A List stars who came to see the show included Jennifer Lopez and Matt Damon.

“Then came Strictly Come Dancing which was completely different.”

Robin explained this meant he was now teaching someone to dance.

A number of his partners on the show came with some dance training while others had none at all.

It was his job as the professional dancer to teach them all the moves and get them ready for the show each Saturday evening.

He said: “When I was doing Strictly there was a huge amount of satisfaction in teaching someone the dance.

“You could see all the hard work which had been put in during the week had finally paid off.

“There is nothing like taking someone through and teaching them the steps.

“It is an incredible feeling once you see them get it right. There is a huge amount of satisfaction.

“One of the people I taught was Deborah Meaden (Dragon’s Den) who will be dancing with me in Taunton and in Exeter.

“I am really looking forward to this.”

Live dancing is for Robin a big thrill and he says there is nothing better than watching love dance as you see the speed and the energy better than you do on the television.

Speaking about what dance gives to him, he said: “Dancing for me means joy and happiness.

“It is something which releases the endorphins and no matter how you feel before the curtain goes up, when you are on stage you are ready to perform.

“You can go back to feeling how you were when the curtain comes down.

“But for me I am swept along in the moment.

“Sometimes I can do a dance and then hear the audience applauding and only then do you realise you have done a great job.

“You can forget you are dancing as you have been so engaged in what you are doing.”

Now Robin is looking to pastures new after the tour and is moving to the Caribbean where he will concentrate on fitness and well being.

It is a new challenge he is looking forward to after casting off his dancing shoes.
