‘I WANT to show people that I can do anything normal people can do.”
These are the words of double-amputee Toby French, who is setting up a vlog to document his experiences of trying different activities without adaptations.
The 28-year-old from Burnham-on-Sea, whose legs are both amputated below the knee, said he was inspired to start a vlog after struggling while out running.
“The sleeves that hold my legs up started to come off while I was running. I don’t know why but mentally it put me into a bit of a meltdown,” Toby said.
“I walked home, had a cry about it and decided I want to start doing stuff that everyone else can do.
“I want to show people that I can do whatever I want without anything being adapted.”
Toby has had a busy year and has taken part in a number of events including Tough Mudder to raise money for local charities.
He said his passion for fitness has grown since he started training with a personal trainer earlier this year and hopes his vlogs will inspire others to try new activities.
“I want to change people’s minds about what disabled people can do,” Toby said.
“Throughout my life I have had quite a lot of people telling me I can’t do things because of my disability but I have done them and want to do more.
“Even if I record a vlog and I fail I will know I am trying something new and proving there are no boundaries to what I can do.
“You meet so many people every day who are doing all of these fantastic things and I want to do them too.
“I hope my vlog inspires others to push the boundaries and try new things.”
