BRIDGWATER Carnival clubs have had a glittering glimpse of what they would be fighting for at the 2008 event when, for the first time outside the annual carnival awards presentation night in December, all 53 trophies for both the Carnival procession and the concerts were brought together.

A preview showing off the silverware was held to mark the handing over of £5,000 to the Carnival committee by key sponsor, Gerber Juice.

Bridgwater Carnival spokesman Dave Stokes said: “Gerber Juice sponsorship normally goes to the Carnival concerts, but this year the company wanted some of the funding to sponsor two of the procession categories.

“It seemed a good idea to choose the local gang and feature classes, where the winners receive either the Kerr or Bryer cups. These are two of the oldest Carnival trophies and are obviously highly coveted by eligible town clubs.

“All the cups are being brought together in readiness for the December presentation, so this was just a great opportunity to show them off to our main sponsor, Gerber Juice, and thank the company for its commitment to Bridgwater Carnival.”

Also attending were fully members of Vagabonds CC, whose entry won top spot at the Carnival concerts that year.
